A global platform for sustainable and social innovation is due to launch in the heart of London this summer.

The Mills Fabrica – the innovation arm of Hong Kong’s real estate regeneration project The Mills – is slated to launch in King’s Cross in June.

Located in the heart of the King’s Cross Tech District, The Mills Fabrica will open the Cottam House, a three-story Victorian warehouse covering 11,383 square feet in the Regent Quarter.

Mills Fabrica’s London base will include a startup incubator, investment platform, laboratories, strategic collaborations, a member-based co-working space, as well as a curated program of cultural and industrial events, an experimental retail space and a coffee shop.

In its cross-border technology incubation program, which spans both Asia and the UK, The Mills Fabrica will focus on the fashion and food industries, with an emphasis on sustainable innovation, and help SMEs find ways to dispose of waste.

The Mills Founder Vanessa Cheung commented, “We are excited to open our doors in the UK. Last year it has been a pleasure to work with our various international partners in this region, be it universities, retailers or other incubators and investors.

“With this new addition, we look forward to working with new and current partners in building an international community of innovators and continuing to support those innovators bring their ideas to market.”

Mills Fabrica UK director Christian Layolle added: “We like to refer to ourselves as ‘ecosystem builders’.

“As a platform, we are able to connect the dots between different stakeholders, from the innovative startups to the scale companies, the regulatory NGOs and governments to the inspiration and support of the students. We look forward to this coming to life in London over the next few months. “
