白地市场分析(white space analysis)显示新兴物料的增长和盈利能力正紧贴替代蛋白
(2021年11月4日)The Material Innovation Initiative (MII) 是一家来自物料业的非牟利智库。他们联同可持续农业粮食、纺织和时装创新行业的投资基金和生态系统建立者南丰作坊,发表了一份关於物料行业的分析报告,详述不含动物成分的可持续皮革、羽绒、羊毛、丝绸、皮草和稀有皮革的「白地市场」机遇(white space opportunities)。
MII的科学总裁Sydney Gladman博士指:「我们的目标是展示在这个新兴行业中未被充分采用、而又拥有的巨大影响力的科研成果。这些『白地』并非集中在单一产品和市场上,它们将在整个新兴物料行业内、外产生涟漪效应。」
南丰作坊留意到新兴物料行业一如十年前的替代蛋白行业,充满著未被开发的机遇。创新者和投资者正伺机物色像Beyond Meat 和Impossible Foods般具颠覆性创新的新兴物料公司,期待在日後市值过亿时收割丰厚的成果。
南丰作坊研究团队的Angus Tsang说:「我们很高兴有机会与Material Innovation Initiative联手探讨新兴物料行业内未被开发的潜力。消费者对可持续发展不断提升的关注推动了新兴物料行业的发展;为了保持著这股动力,现在是时候向更广泛的群体介绍物料创新。」
MII的共同创办人Nicole Rawling 和Stephanie Downs都是来自替代蛋白领域的专家。Nicole Rawling补充说:「我和Stephanie都见證过这种行业转变。对我们而言,今天物料行业的发展可说是似曾相识。」
MII和南丰作坊在这份分析报告中,定义「白地」(white spaces)为在促进专注研发的工作,及创造新兴科技和公司以满足新兴生态系统中未被满足的需求方面拥有关键机遇的领域。
最显著的白地市场都是皮革以外的物料:由於业内大约叁分之二的公司都在生产新兴皮革,令丝绸、羊毛、羽绒、皮草和野生皮革的创新成果受到局限。但这也为一些物料 —— 特别是皮草和丝绸 —— 提供了许多有利可图的机遇。

根据联合国的资料,工业化畜牧业是导致当今多个严峻问题的主因,包括:气候改变、生物多样化流失、环境退化、空气和水污染、过度浪费、公共健康危机及虐待动物。另外,至少叁分之二的品牌的可持续策略都跟其原材料选择有关,可见品牌需要替代品取代现在市面上的动物物料,以帮助他们达至可持续目标。
现在机遇处处,新兴服装品牌Pangaia的创新总裁Amanda Parkes博士简明扼要:「我们需要大部分人把事情做得更好,而非只有一小撮人把事情做到完美。」
