Redivivum Technology has been established with the idea of providing a textile waste collecting & sorting HaaS (Hardware-as-a-Service) with a fully traceable infrastructure to various fashion industry players to transparently collect, sort and then recycle their textile waste.

Currently the primary destinations for both collected and uncollected textile waste are landfill or incineration which increases the level of methane in the atmosphere. Our research identified the main barriers to the only solution which is fiber-to-fiber recycling, lie within the current inefficient collecting and sorting practices.

Our solution to this problem is a HaaS infrastructure based on an automated textile waste collecting and sorting machinery. The machine could sort the most common fiber types with the power of Near Infrared Spectroscopy technology and would also enable the tracking and tracing of collected waste batches from their primary collection point to the recycling facility via blockchain, this way fashion brands, municipalities or other organizations could back up their sustainability claims with real data.

The solution is innovative as so far similar projects were only carried out on an industrial scale without any traceability aspect or meaningful touch point with customers and citizens. It could impact societies globally as with the tracking function we could eliminate the transportation of collected clothing waste to the Global South. It is also scalable as innovative recycling technologies are maturing rapidly and requiring sorted and high quality feedstock. Moreover upcoming legislation is pressuring fashion brands and governments to improve their textile waste handling efforts however they are lacking an efficient infrastructure yet.
