As part of the implementation team, the fermentation process assistant will work with the fermentation specialists to provide day-to-day operations of Colorifix’s fermentation process at its facility in Cambridge, UK. The fermentation site has a microbiological lab and both pilot and full-scale bioreactors used to scale-up the Colorifix’s fermentation process and produce dye liquor which will be applied on fabrics for dyeing runs. This will involve working closely with the dye team at Cambridge site, to coordinate work across the process. The fermentation process assistant will be responsible for preparing, running, and collecting data from the fermentation runs. This includes collecting samples and carrying out analysis, along with the subsequent data analysis and report writing, ensuring that batch records are maintained for all runs. The fermentation assistant will be expected to contribute to the maintenance and efficient running of the microbiological lab and fermentation site. They will be given responsibility for specific tasks and, after training, be expected to carry them out independently e.g., media preparation, bioreactor preparation and cleaning, sampling, sample processing and support in the data analysis.

Essential skills and experience:

• BSc in biological sciences, chemistry, or chemical engineering.
• Good organisational skills. Practised in data analysis and report writing.
• Basic experience in the use of conventional laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuge, microscope, pH meter, autoclave, spectrophotometer).
• Good communicator and flexible team player that is committed to the success of the team.
• Ability to follow standard operating procedures and continuously improve operations.
• A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in an industrial environment.

Desirable skills and experience:

• An understanding of basic microbiology techniques (e.g., aseptic technique and bacterial culture growth).
• Previous experience with fermentation upstream process.
• An attention to detail for maintaining the work environment organized.
• Experience in troubleshooting and problem solving, for both long term and quick solutions
• Development of templates for data analysis.
• Experience of keeping a digital lab book.
• Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams.
