As part of Implementation team, the Process Development Scientist will work closely with the new strain development scientists and the implementation specialists to develop the fermentation upstream processes. They would be responsible for giving the necessary information to build up the bridge between the lab-scale and the full-scale fermentation. The fermentation suite comprises of both bench-scale and full-scale bioreactors (from 1L to 250L). This series of bioreactors will be used to characterise Colorifix’s engineered microorganisms and produce dye liquor which can be quantified for specific pigments and/or applied on fabrics for small and big scale dyeing runs. In this role, the process development scientist is going to be responsible for testing new strains, checking for reproducibility, scalability, and opportunities for productivity increase, ensuring that workflow records are maintained for the whole of process development. The process development scientist will be expected to contribute to experiment design, data analysis, maintenance and efficient running of the fermentation suite.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Running lab and bench-scale fermentations and affinity for microbiological work in a lab environment.
• Knowledge on bio-process principles such as different modes of operation, up- and down-scaling (through to pilot plant and full production), and/or bio-process data processing and modelling
• Familiarity with technical transfer documentation
• What it means to work on bioprocesses in an industrial and customer-oriented context.
• Combine solid problem analysis with practical judgment and creativity.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• You are a Microbial Physiologist, Biotechnologist, or Biochemical Engineer by training, preferably at PhD level or Master’s with 2-4 years of experience.
• You are a specialist in, or have demonstrated affinity with, microbial (E.coli, Yeast & Fungi) physiology, fermentation process development and bioprocess design, preferably in an industrial context.
• You are able to work on multiple projects.
• You have a high standard for quality
• You can apply your scientific knowledge and expertise in providing practical and/or create innovative solutions while being able to clearly present the added value of your contributions.
• We expect you to be a team player eager to connect to fellow professionals in the various scientific competence areas within Colorifix as well as to those from external parties.
• You have a customer focus and you are open to share knowledge with your colleagues.
• Your personality can be described as collaborative, entrepreneurial, pro-active, responsible, result-driven and flexible.
• Good communication skills in English are required.
