You will work directly with our co-founder and CEO, Jen Keane, and veteran marketing advisors to build out Modern Synthesis’ marketing function, playing a critical role in shaping the company’s communication and content strategy around three mission critical pillars: culture, impact, and commercialization.

You will be a brand guardian and a critical link between our team and the outside world, sharing our vision, values, and progress with a variety of stakeholders and audiences through clear & engaging written and visual content. Meanwhile, being our eyes and ears to the market, you will keep the team abreast of trends and opportunities, actively contributing to an ambitious growth trajectory.

This isn’t a plug and play position. We're looking for someone who has the ingenuity and drive to help us build a material brand from the ground up, with an impeccable taste level and insatiable curiosity for biomaterials, fashion tech, and the circular economy.

Job responsibilities

Develop and own cross-channel content rollout according to key brand strategy initiatives:

• Serve as a brand guardian for Modern Synthesis, ensuring best in class execution, consistent tone of voice and adherence to brand guidelines across all platforms
• Actively contribute to wider brand strategy development
• Craft intelligent written content, from social media copy and newsletters to long form editorial pieces, distilling complex topics for a variety of audiences.
• Deliver engaging visual content, by creating it yourself and/or sourcing + guiding external talent including but not limited to photography, film, graphics, animation and other digital media
• Curate website and all brand related social media profiles, collaboratively designing and developing site content and layouts
• Prepare physical and digital presentation materials for events , promotional and fundraising activities.
• Continually generate new content ideas for community and stakeholder channels in collaboration with founders and other team members

Coordinate engagement with key internal + external stakeholders and identify the most effective ways to create transparency, alignment, and accountability. Actively build team trust and promote an inclusive, high performance culture.

Cultural & Market Intelligence

• Foster relationships with press, media, and relevant industry organisations.
• Track effectiveness of activities in order to identify areas of improvement & future initiatives
• Proactively propose & develop initiatives that will drive the Modern Synthesis brand forward.

About You

• You have a marketing/ journalism background with a proven eye for design and visual storytelling OR you are a visual designer/ creative researcher with exceptional writing skills and a strategic mindset
• You already spend your free time reading and writing about biodesign, material trends, fashion tech and / or the circular economy
• 3-5 years experience leading content creation for an agency, brand or other relevant cultural stakeholder in the fashion + lifestyle sectors
• Master storyteller
• You are scrappy but committed to quality, aiming for a look & feel of 10x your budget.
• A keen sense of ownership, and a track record of delivering results in the face of ambiguity and concurrent priorities
• Evidence of being able to use Canva or (better) Photoshop/ Illustrator for social media posts etc, &/or being a half-decent amateur videographer will be helpful!
• Basic understanding of SEO optimization and other web traffic metrics
• Outstanding written English skills.
• Detail-oriented work style, with excellent time management
• Creative, out-of-the-box thinker
• Positive, can-do attitude, identifying potential obstacles with a mindset to find solutions + workarounds
